This week is National FFA Week and chapters around the Nation are celebrating with dress up days and community service events. This week the GCMS FFA is celebrating with Chapter T-Shirt Day, Official Dress Day and an appreciation cook-out for the high school staff. Friday is also the final day fro strawberry sales! Please send your orders with an FFA member ASAP, or to Miss Novotney at novotneyk@gcms.k12.il.us. This Saturday will culminate this week’s events with the 8th Annual Scholarship Auction with lots of great items this year! The Silent Auction will start at 11:30-12:45 and a pork loin luncheon will also be served then. The live auction is to start at 1pm sharp. Come on out an support GCMS FFA! HAPPY FFA WEEK FROM THE GCMS FFA CHAPTER!

After Prom Fundraiser

The Junior Class is conducting a Central Lean Fund Raiser to raise funds for their 2012 After Prom. Each comes with 4 – 1lb bundles of all natural all Lean Beef for $19.95. See one of the Junior Class members to order. Deadline is March 1^st with delivery scheduled for March 28^th. The Junior class thanks you for your support!

Wrestling State Finals

Four GCMS Wrestlers have advanced to the ISHA State Tournament this Thursday-Saturday at the Assembly Hall: Cameron Schwing (106lbs), Dylan Donner (120lbs), Chet McClure (132lbs) and Josh Wallick (285lbs).

If you are interested in watching, but cannot make it down the IHSA will broadcast all matches live online at www.ihsa.tv

All 4 of our athletes will wrestle during the 2:30 session on Thursday (Cameron will be the first match on mat 2). Go Falcons!

America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education

GCMS is working on “America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education” program from the Monsanto Fund. One of the components is to get as many farmers (and spouses) to nominate us as possible. If you’re a farmer or know a farmer in the GCMS district, please nominate us! The more nominations we get, the more support we have for the grant!

JANUARY STUDENT OF THE MONTH

MIKAYLA WOODWARD

Mikayla Woodward is our January student of the month. She was nominated for this award by Mrs. Kilee Lidwell Mcferren. Mikayla is the daughter of link and Angie Woodward of Gibson City.

Mikayla is a member of yearbook, national honor society, project ignition, act out, talon, and interact. She also volunteers as an office aide, freshman mentor, and big brothers/big sisters. She has participated in golf all 4 years of high school.

As a freshman, Mikayla was the art student of the year and her junior year was the business student of the year. She is a high honor roll student. She also participates in the youth group at the United Methodist Church in Gibson City and their mission trips.

She plans to attend north central college in the fall to study organizational communication. She will also be a member of their golf team.

FFA Strawberries

Next week the GCMS will begin their 2nd annual strawberry sale! These strawberries are picked fresh from the plants and will be to us within 36 hours of leaving the fields in Florida! Please consider purchasing these from the FFA members. They will be receiving their order forms in class on Monday and will be selling until Friday, February 24th.
I will take orders via email or phone, but the students receive credit for the orders they receive so please consider ordering from one of the members first.
If you order from me, and then are contacted by a member, I can cross you off my list, but just let the student know so I can make that switch.

Tonight’s meet is at high school at 6pm and is against the 15th ranked Herscher Tigers. We need a big home crowd to help us pull off the upset and send our seniors off with a victory. Also, for senior night we turn off all the lights and wrestle under the spotlight, which makes for a pretty exciting atmosphere.
